"Bizet's opera - a masterpiece, one of the few works that are destined to reflect in itself the strongest degree of musical aspirations of an era . "In some ten years "Carmen" will be the most popular opera in the world ... "- these Tchaikovsky's words, uttered in 1880, became prophetic. The opera of Georges Bizet is on scenes of the leading opera houses around the world; images of the freedom-loving gypsy by Elena Obraztsova, Olga Borodina, Irina Arkhipova, Agnes Baltsa, Jessye Norman have become enduring classics.
And now it is time for the birth of a new Carmen star - Justina Gringyte
- a Lithuanian mezzo-soprano with a knockout technique, according to 'The Times', the stunning power of voice, according to 'The Telegraph' and at the same time, "the timbre of incredible elegance and natural resistance» (Opera Britannia). In this role, the winner of the the International Opera Awards 2015 has captivated the audience across the UK: the English National Opera, Scottish Opera and Festival in West Wales; now the turn of Russia has come.
Micaela’s party will be performed by Veronica Dzhioeva. The Grand Opera Contest winner, the winner of numerous international competitions, the leading soloist of the three opera houses in the country - the Mariinsky, the Bolshoi and the Novosibirsk Theatres - already enchanted Seoul a few years ago with her "lyrically touching, vulnerable and infinitely loving" Michaela and her "unique flowing soprano" .
Jose will be performed by the soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre, an honored artist of Ukraine Dmytro Popov, who is rapidly gaining an international reputation as one of the brightest young performers. Over the past few seasons he has had his debut performances at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Deutsche Oper (Berlin), the Bavarian State Opera (Munich), the Royal Theatre of Turin, the opera houses of Stuttgart and Monte Carlo, and his debut as Jose on the Australian Opera scene (Sydney) is remembered to this day.
The vision of the theatre performance developed by its director Yury Laptev, the People’s Artist of Russia, will complement captivating realism of Music and Drama. On the giant screens of different proportions, as if torn by the power of fate that comes from Carmen, there will be projections of scenes specially created for this opera-based production. What images there will be and how all this will happen - the authors are keeping secret. Also Yuri Laptev, director and soloist of the Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theatre will perform on stage as Escamillo.
The conductor is an outstanding musician of the new generation, who glorifies the Russian art in the best halls of the world, virtuoso violinist Mikhail Simonyan. His artistic biography includes performing on the stages of "Carnegie Hall", "Lincoln Center", the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and others. He collaborates with Gergiev, Pletnev, Kristjan Järvi, performs with the world best orchestras: the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (USA), the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra and the Russian National Orchestra.
