GALA CONCERT TO THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STATE CHOIR AND THE STATE ORCHESTRA

For the first time in history, a unique joint performance marked the anniversary of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra “Evgeny Svetlanov” (The State Orchestra of the Soviet Union) and the Sveshnikov State Academic Russian Choir (The State Choir of the USSR). The Open Sea Foundation for Cultural and Educational Programs took active part in organizing the anniversary concert.
The anniversary gala concert program included masterpieces of Russian and foreign music, works written specifically for the State Orchestra and the State Choir, and pieces performed by the two bands for the first time. Especially for their 80th anniversary, the State Orchestra and the State Choir prepared a world premiere of Sergey Prokofiev’s symphonic work and several surprise performances. The gala concert involved world opera stars Olga Borodina, Aida Garifullina, Dmytro Popov, Mariinsky theater’s Prima Ballerina Diana Vishneva, laureates of various international contests Mikhail Simonyan (violin), Alexander Boldachev (harp) and Ekaterina Mechetina (pianoforte), and People’s Artist of Russia Yury Afonkin (viola).
The concert was conducted by universally recognized artists, whose creative paths are closely linked to the State Orchestra and State Choir: People’s Artist of Russia Alexander Lazarev, Maestro Neeme Järvi, Eugene Volkov, Kahaber Onashvili and People’s Artist of the USSR Vladislav Chernushenko.
The gala concert, intended to introduce the viewers to the history and creative development of the two bands combined art of declamation with expressive media of orc music, choir singing, opera and ballet. The combination of visual means and unique decorations created specifically for the concert emphasized the importance and grandeur of the two bands’ anniversary.
